Leicester’s Curve is helping even more people to access theatre, thanks to over £30,000 raised by legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen.

As part of his 80th birthday celebrations, Ian McKellen took a new solo show to theatres across the UK – including Curve - raising money at each venue. Thanks to his generosity, Curve is partnering with local charities VistaCharity Link and Age UK to offer complimentary tickets and specially adapted shows for people who might not otherwise be able to attend a performance.

Sight loss charity Vista, will receive 200 tickets for One Under, a specially adapted drama featuring creative captioning and audio description at every performance; Curve partners with Charity Link, which works to support vulnerable people and families, will be given tickets for an entire performance of Made at Curve’s Christmas production for families, Giraffes Can’t Dance; and in partnership with Age UK Leicester and other local dementia projects, Curve will provide 300 complimentary tickets for the Dementia Friendly production of West Side Story.

Peter Knott, Area Director at Arts Council England, yesterday said:

“It’s humbling to see that people like Sir Ian McKellen, who have built a successful career in the arts, giving back to the organisations and audiences who have helped make this possible.

“We believe that everyone has the right to experience and be inspired by great arts and culture, and with complimentary ticket options and specially adapted performances for those with dementia, sight loss or young families, made possible by this generous donation, Curve is taking great steps to ensure that everyone can enjoy a trip to the theatre.”
