Socitm launches 'Digital Transformation'

Socitm and ITN Productions have launched a news and current affairs-style programme ‘Digital Transformation,’ which explores the changing digital landscape within public services.

With digital technologies changing our society dramatically along with a growing demand on services and reduced budgets, creating streamlined digital services in the public sector is more important than ever before. ‘Digital Transformation’ brings to life how digital technology is improving service delivery, the effective outcomes that are making a difference and the people making this happen.

Hosted by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, the programme also looks at how local councils can improve public services and the consumer experience as well as how they are working to provide solutions to help deliver effective services and outcomes.

Drawing upon ITN’s 60-year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece combines key interviews including Geoff Connell, President of Socitm, Andrew Grant, Chief Executive of Aylesbury Vale District Council, and Nadira Hussain, Head of ICT at London Borough of Enfield. The programme also includes a feature story from digital solution provider Jisc, who showcase how their digital services and solutions that offer ‘zero-touch’ access to connectivity mean staff can focus on their jobs rather than negotiating Wi-Fi access.

Set for release in early 2018, the programme was previewed at the Socitm Annual Conference 2017 on Monday 9 October. It's also available to view online.

Geoff Connell, President of Socitm, said: “What we can’t keep doing is what we have done in the past. We have to use digital technology to completely change the way we deliver services either directly or in conjunction with the public. We have got 400-odd local authorities and they are often doing brilliant things, but how do you share those great stories and examples of good practice? If somebody has done a fantastic job or has learnt from challenges then we want to share that knowledge.”

Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions, said: “ITN Productions are delighted to have partnered with Socitm to explore the rapidly changing digital landscapes within our public services. By examining the importance of these changes and the further work required for a collaborative approach we hope this programme will be shared so that knowledge and ideas can be pooled, to ultimately improve service delivery.”

Paul Feldman, Chief Executive, Jisc, said: “I’m happy that this film gives profile to govroam, a service that is a huge benefit to the public sector and collaborative working. The more barriers we remove for public workers to connect to the internet, the faster they can do their jobs.”
