Socitm president Geoff Connell has praised the leadership shown by the society’s chief executive, who is standing down from his role at the end of September.

Connell described Adrian Hancock as a visionary leader and pivotal figure in UK public sector ICT.

Hancock is leaving Socitm, the public sector ICT representative body, to concentrate on his leadership role at a charity and church in County Durham.

“The growth and success of Socitm over the last few years is testimony to Adrian’s vision and leadership”, said Connell. “I can honestly say that he leaves the society in the strongest position I can remember since I first joined as a young analyst programmer in the 1990s.

“Adrian is not only a very effective chief executive but one of the sector’s most visionary leaders. He has played an important role in helping to transform public sector ICT across the UK. It is a privilege to have had him on the Socitm team.”

Hancock joined Socitm in 2004, and took up the role of chief executive in 2008. Prior to joining the society, he worked for the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) on the strategy, design, development, delivery and marketing of e-government and e-procurement infrastructure projects and services.

“It has been an incredible journey and a privilege to be chief executive of Socitm, but I believe the time is right to concentrate more fully on my charity work,” said Hancock. “Leading the society has been inspiring, as has working with a team of committed and hard-working people. I’m confident that Socitm will continue to grow its position as a trusted source of information and become the community of choice for digital leaders and managers.”

David Bryant, commercial director of Socitm, will assume the role of senior executive director while the society recruits a replacement.
