Spectacular ships on display

London will welcome a fleet of high-rise ships this Easter Bank Holiday for the Tall Ships Festival.

More than 30 vessels will be moored on the Thames at Greenwich and Woolwich - and some of the largest will be open for tours.

About 18 ships will be displayed in front of Cutty Sark Gardens, including the Norwegian ship Christian Radich, one of the oldest in the world.

Because of their size, the ships are only accessible by boat and can be visited daily from 9:30am to 16:40pm (until midday on Sunday) via a shuttle from Greenwich Pier.

A selection will also be moored at Royal Arsenal Pier, Woolwich which can be visited free of charge. Some ships will be available for cruises, and tickets can be bought from www.sailroyalgreenwich.co.uk/tickets.

There will also be nightly firework displays, live music and entertainment for all the family at the various sites.

As a spectacular finish to the festival, visitors can wave off the entire fleet on Sunday as they join a Parade of Sail, starting at 17:00pm from Deptford Creek. The Tall Ships will sail together down the Thames before crossing the Atlantic and arriving in Quebec on 18 July.

The festival runs from 13 April to 16 April. Visit www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk
