A wide range of enterprises in South Wales have been given the opportunity to take a cabin at the St David’s Day street market on the Hayes in Cardiff – thanks to support from the Welsh Government.

The seven micro businesses - that have all been advised and helped by the Business Wales service over the past eighteen months are being given space on five stands at the market which runs from 26 February to 5 March in the heart of the city.

They will be selling a variety of innovative hand crafted goods ranging from memory bears to sheep sculptures made from reclaimed wood and rope to artisan ales and stone ground flour.

The Marketplace initiative was first launched as a pilot during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November 2011. Since then more than 170 small innovative Welsh businesses have been supported to attend numerous markets across Wales.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“It provides a great platform to enable these young businesses to showcase their products in a street market environment and gain valuable experience from trading. The initiative also promotes products that are made in Wales, encourages people to buy locally made goods which in turn helps support the local economy.”
