Suffragan Bishop of Barking: Peter Hill

The Queen has approved
the nomination of the Venerable Peter Hill to the Suffragan See of
Barking.
The Queen has approved the
nomination of the Venerable Peter Hill, BSc, MTh, Archdeacon of Nottingham, in
the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, to the Suffragan See of Barking, in
the Diocese of Chelmsford, in succession to the Right Reverend David John
Leader Hawkins, BTh, ALCD, on his resignation on 30 March
2014.
The Venerable Peter
Hill
The Venerable Peter Hill (aged
64), studied at Manchester University, then at Nottingham University and
trained for the ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He served as curate of
Porchester, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham from 1983 to 1986 and
from 1986 to 1995 was Vicar of Huthwaite. From 1995 to 2004 he was
Priest-in-Charge of Calverton also in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham
and served as Area Dean of Southwell from 1997 to 2001. From 2004 to 2007 he
was Diocesan Chief Executive. Since 2007 he has been the Archdeacon of
Nottingham and is Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education. He is also
currently Vice Chair of the Dioceses Commission.
Peter is married to Ellen and
they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. His interests include pilgrimage
walking, education, rock music, all sports and especially Welsh
rugby.
