New action plan for vulnerable people.

Support and protection for vulnerable adults is being strengthened through the delivery of a new improvement plan.

The plan includes a multi-agency inspection programme which will ensure adults at risk of physical, sexual, psychological or financial harm are protected and identify areas for further development.

The publication of the three year plan was announced jointly by the Scottish Government and Social Work Scotland at the National Adult Support and Protection Conference.

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman yesterday said:

“I welcome the publication of the improvement plan which builds on existing activity across multi-agency adult support and protection partnerships. It includes action on assurance, governance, data and information, legislation, policy and guidance, practice improvement and prevention.

“Work is already underway and I am confident it will enhance the overall wellbeing and quality of life for vulnerable adults across Scotland.”

Director of Social Work Scotland Ben Farrugia yesterday said:

“Adult support and protection is about finding that delicate balance of risk with a vulnerable person’s human rights and independence.

“We are delighted at the launch of the Scottish Government’s improvement plan which will provide more support and assurance to the highly specialised work which committed professionals across Scotland carry out.”
