This briefing was prepared for the Environmental Audit Committee to support their progress report for 2010 to 2015. It revisits the topic of our 2012 briefingSustainability reporting in government by assessing progress in reporting on sustainability and evaluating current and upcoming requirements.

Part 1 of the briefing reviews current and planned requirements for sustainability reporting set by HM Treasury. It also presents the wider context of sustainability reporting, including developments in good practice and reporting in the devolved nations.

Part 2 of the briefing assesses the annual reporting of government departments against the best practice and requirements presented in part 1, and highlights both examples of good practice and potential areas for improvement.
