EU27 leaders have formally agreed their negotiating guidelines for the future UK-EU relationship. Open Europe's Aarti Shankar takes a look at how these compare to the UK's position on the future economic partnership.
This now paves the way for the UK and the EU to begin negotiating in earnest on future trading relations and the broader strategic partnership. As negotiations progress, the biggest difficulties are likely to emerge over level playing field obligations and the governance arrangements for the final deal. However, the framework for an ambitious free trade agreement is beginning to emerge.
