Time Travel TV launches to help with the return to home-schooling

21 Apr 2020 02:04 PM

As many families return to home-schooling after the Easter holidays, today we are launching Time Travel TV, an online video series featuring brand new educational resources.

Families across the UK are invited to join the free sessions, which are primarily aimed at children aged eight to 11. Viewers will discover more about the unique and diverse treasures held by The National Archives, one of the largest archives in the world with a collection dating back over 1,000 years.

New video clips will be released each Tuesday and Thursday. After today’s introductory episode, Thursday’s edition will focus on a famous Tudor monarch, with subsequent instalments covering other key figures and events from history. The video content will be accompanied by optional follow-up activities for viewers to complete, including a detective-based enquiry exploring documents in the collection, and a creative themed craft.

The sessions have been developed by The National Archives’ Education and Outreach team, who usually teach on site and online classes to thousands of children each year. With the building currently closed and many families returning to home-schooling after the Easter break, these sessions aim to provide children with a fun and accessible way to learn about history from home.

Viewers can sign up to The National Archives’ mailing list or follow The National Archives on social media for updates on future sessions, and tune in by visiting the Time Travel TV webpage.
