Tuesday 6 February is polling day for Alyn and Deeside

With less than two weeks to go until the National Assembly for Wales by-election in the Alyn and Deeside constituency, voters are being reminded that the election is taking place on Tuesday 6 February, rather than the usual Thursday polling day.

Across Alyn and Deeside:

• There are 64,053 eligible voters
• 42 polling stations will be open
• 115 polling station staff will be on duty

Colin Everett, Returning Officer for Alyn and Deeside said:

“We’re getting very close to polling day now, so we want to make sure that everyone knows how they can cast their vote and take part on Tuesday 6 February.”

“Your poll card will tell you the location of your polling station and if anyone has any questions there’s lots of information on how to vote at www.yourvotematters.co.uk or they can call our team on 01352 702412 and we’ll be able to help.”

Rhydian Thomas, Head of the Electoral Commission in Wales, said:

“We don’t want anyone to miss out because they didn’t know what to expect on polling day. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Tuesday 6 February, so plan now when you’re going to cast your vote. Voters who have opted to vote by post need to make sure their postal ballot pack is returned by 10pm on 6 February.“

Here’s a rundown of what you need to know before polling day:

Make sure you vote in time

• Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Tuesday 6 February.

Postal voting

• If you have a postal vote, make sure it is returned by 10pm on Tuesday 6 February. Voters can hand it in at their polling station if they have not left enough time to return it by post.

Proxy voting

• If you are suddenly unable to vote in person because you have a medical emergency which prevents you from attending on polling day, or your occupation, service or employment means that you cannot go to the polling station in person, you may be entitled to appoint an emergency proxy. You should contact Flintshire County Council to ask about this.

What you need to take with you

• Just yourself! Your poll card will have been sent to the address where you are registered but you do not need to take it with you to vote. Just tell the polling station staff your name and address and they can check whether you’re on the electoral register.

Social media

• Social media is a great way to let your friends and family know you have voted and to encourage them to do the same. So use Twitter and Facebook to get the message out there.
• Remember! Pictures of you outside the polling station are great to use on social media posts but don’t take a picture of yourself inside the polling station as if you post this it could be a breach of the law.
