UK Government announces formal consultation on proposed apprenticeship levy

Large companies are set to be effected by new levy which seeks to address skills shortages and meet Government's target for 3 million new apprentices by 2020.

Recently the Prime Minister has announced that Government will formally consult on the Apprenticeship Levy proposed on all large firms. A survey platform has been launched for responses available here, alongside a consultation paper. The consultation closes on 2 October 2015.

The consultation seeks views on:

techUK, through our Skills, Talent and Migration Group, has previously met with BIS and HMT officials to learn more about the proposal, and has emphasised the need for a formal consultation process. We believe there are potential aspects of the proposal that have particular impact on the tech industry, and we now seek member views.
