Unicef Philippines ready to provide support to the children affected by Typhoon Koppu

20 Oct 2015 10:39 AM

Executive Director of Unicef UK, David Bull says: “Unicef is on the ground in the Philippines, mobilised and ready to provide support to the children affected by Typhoon Koppu.

More than 10,000 people have been displaced since it hit this morning and the three days of torrential rain expected is likely to cause flooding and landslides.

“Unicef is prepared and ready to respond. We have emergency supplies for 12,000 families on standby, as well as medical stocks, nutritional supplements and water and hygiene kits ready for immediate distribution. Our first priority is to keep children safe from contaminated water sources, lack of food, and the epidemics which often follow in the wake of a typhoon, such as cholera, hypothermia, diarrhoea and pneumonia."
