Unicef resources available to media reporting on the Coronavirus

In countries with ongoing humanitarian situations, the pandemic has added yet another layer of vulnerability.

The urban poor, internally displaced and refugee/migrant populations are especially at risk as they tend to live in overcrowded settings, with restricted access to healthcare, handwashing and sanitation facilities. Children on the move will be further exposed to the disease as basic essential and life-saving services are unavailable due to control measures, movement restrictions, border closures and discriminatory access to testing and other health services.

UNICEF is focused on meeting the urgent needs of children and families, especially in the most vulnerable communities, working with partners to ensure that they have the support they need by providing personal protective equipment to healthcare workers, water and sanitation facilities, and education and child protection services.

About Unicef

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation for children, promoting the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.

Unicef UK raises funds to protect children in danger, transform their lives and build a safer world for tomorrow’s children. As a registered charity we raise funds through donations from individuals, organisations and companies and we lobby and campaign to keep children safe. Unicef UK also runs programmes in schools, hospitals and with local authorities in the UK.
