Update on potential procurement reform in Wales

Following the UK’s departure from the EU, we are considering how we reform current procurement regulations.

To understand the best way forward for procurement reform in Wales, earlier this year we engaged with our stakeholders to understand their appetite for potential procurement reform in Wales and the proposals outlined in the UK government’s Green Paper.

This engagement found that most stakeholders were generally supportive of the overall direction of travel of the UK Government’s Green Paper proposals but that it did not have sufficient detail.

Ideally, Welsh Ministers would like reform to be taken forward broadly on the same basis and to the same timescale in both England and Wales. Hence the Minister for Finance and Trefnydd has written to UK government requesting that the incoming Welsh Government makes a final decision on the way forward for procurement reform in Wales once further information is available.

We will therefore work closely with UK government officials and continue to engage with our stakeholders, as appropriate, to help inform the incoming Welsh Government in making its final decision early in the new term.
