WWF responds to the report by REN21 on achieving 100% energy from renewable sources

Gareth Redmond-King, Head of Energy and Climate at WWF, responded to the REN21 launch of "Renewables Global Futures Report: Great debates towards 100% renewable energy”

“This is yet more evidence that the future is with renewables and that there is diminishing use for dirty, polluting fossil fuels.  Renewables are transforming our energy use across the world – 100% renewable energy is no longer a pipedream, but a reality which we are tantalisingly close to realising.

“We’ve achieved a huge amount in the UK in building renewables electricity – slashing our emissions by more than a third since 1990.  What we need now is the long-overdue plan from the UK Government for how we build on that success and continue to reduce emissions into the next decade.  This ‘clean growth plan’ needs to be ambitious if we are to meet our crucial climate obligations.”
