WWF unlocks new Education Hub
27 Apr 2020 03:49 PM
The Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) has launched a new series of free, educational content for students, parents and teachers to enjoy at home during the current global health crisis.
Learn to Love Nature will offer regular live learning events, activities and resources for young people aged 4-18, as well as engaging materials for parents and teachers to use as part of remote schooling.
Each week, WWF will share five different ways to connect with nature and learn about our planet, with weekly themes focused around climate, biodiversity and sustainability. Interactive live learning sessions will take place via the Learn to Love Nature Facebook group, with additional opportunities to participate in fun craft activities and insightful Q&A webinars with WWF’s science and wildlife experts. Popular educational materials created by the environmental organisation can also be downloaded via the WWF website, where all content will remain live to revisit at any time.
The educational initiative launches this week, kicking off with the theme of freshwater - one of our planet's most precious resources for wildlife and humans. For Freshwater Week (20-24 Apr), there will be a puppet making workshop on Facebook Live; the chance to get creativity flowing by creating your own river story inspired by storyteller Cindy Lou; plus you can now discover the interactive explorable globe for a self-guided dive into the workings of our planet.
Coming up in April and May, WWF will be exploring the coastal seas (27 Apr-1 May), with a recycled jellyfish-making workshop and a webinar on the wonders of seagrass with Sky Ocean Rescue; and onto our planet’s forests (4-8 May), with a Facebook Live session where a WWF expert will help you use the innovative ‘Seek’ app to identify the fascinating insects and plants on your doorstep.
Matt Larsen-Daw, Education Manager at WWF-UK says:
“We’ve been working closely with communities, schools and youth groups for over 30 years and like many parents and teachers, we want to ensure that young people continue to receive meaningful and enriching experiences during these most challenging times. ‘Learn to Love Nature’ is led by those at the very heart of WWF’s conservation work and includes an entirely new programme of activities suited to online learning, available at home and accessible to all. We look forward to welcoming students, parents and teachers to discover more about our planet and why it’s more important than ever to reconnect with the natural world.”
Learn to Love Nature will also help followers explore other landscapes and projects in the coming weeks and months. From frozen worlds and tropical jungles, to learning about the power of biodiversity and a chance to go behind the scenes of the Netflix series, Our Planet.
