The Welsh Government recently (14 September 2020) launched a community survey into the impact of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 on volunteering through the medium of Welsh and use of the Welsh language.

To gather information from as many groups as possible all groups, organisations and clubs that promote the Welsh language or provide opportunities for people to use Welsh locally, are being asked to complete the online questionnaire, which was  launched recently.

The questionnaire is designed to gather an up-to-date picture of the opportunities that exist to use Welsh within the community. With the help of the Mentrau Iaith, the questionnaire will be distributed by e-mail to community groups operating in their areas, and the local Mentrau Iaith will encourage and help them to complete the questionnaire.

Eluned Morgan, Minister for the Welsh Language, recently said:

Volunteering through the medium of Welsh and the resulting opportunities to use Welsh in the community has been the backbone of the Welsh language and also play a vitally important role in promoting it.

We are grateful to the Mentrau Iaith for their support, the results of the questionnaire will give Welsh Government and the Mentrau Iaith a wider picture in order to draw up policies in order to safeguard opportunities to use Welsh at a community level in the future.

I would like to encourage everyone who receives the questionnaire to complete it and share their experiences with us.

The questionnaire will be live from 14 September to 2 October 2020.
