Young people and the future of work: Council conclusions

23 May 2019 12:12 PM

The Council yesterday adopted conclusions on young people and the future of work. The conclusions highlight insecurity, the lack of social protection and precarious working conditions as the main problems facing young people in the current and future labour environment.

A number of measures to address these problems are identified in the conclusions: adaptable and responsive social security and education and training systems, the promotion of lifelong learning, ensuring smooth school-to-work and work-to-work transition, as well as equal access to quality jobs for all young people.

The conclusions also recognise that the European Union should support young people’s personal development and growth to autonomy, build their resilience and equip them with the necessary resources to participate in society, thereby contributing to the eradication of youth poverty.
