Divergence could have a variety of consequences for e-Commerce, whilst some will be medium- and long-term issues, some short-term challenges have already arisen. The Omnibus Directive is an attempt to modernize regulation of e-Commerce and is aimed at the better enforcement and modernization of union consumer protection rules.
Through the Omnibus Directive and the new market surveillance Regulation, the EU has sought to catch-up with modern e-Commerce and regulate it accordingly.
This will be another early test off the UK in terms of keeping up to date with e-Commerce developments and providing regulations legislation that provides fairness and safety for both consumers and reputable businesses.
