Major ransomware attack affects a wide range of organisations including a number of NHS Trusts.

Responding to the recent news of a series of ransomware attacks affecting a wide range of organisations including the NHS, techUK's Deputy CEO Antony Walker recently commented:

“Today’s ransomware attack highlights the significant threat that cyber security poses to all organisations, from small businesses to the UK’s critical national infrastructure. Early reports suggest that this is a ransomware attack that has affected a wide range of organisations across the world. This does not appear to be a directed attack against the NHS.

This is clearly an evolving situation, but it is an important reminder for all organisations of the need to ensure that IT systems are up to date and staff have the tools and awareness they need to stay cyber secure. Organisations running out-dated systems are more vulnerable to these types of attack.

There is much organisations can do to protect themselves. The NCSC has published guidance for anyone concerned about vulnerability to these form of attacks, which can be found here. The Cyber Essentials scheme is a good starting place for understanding how to stay cyber secure.”
