techUK responds to the publication of the Changes and Choices report which sets out independent advice on the design of future research funding.

Yesterday (5 November) the Government published it's report Changes and Choices.

Commissioned by the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation and co-authored by Professor Sir Adrian Smith and Professor Graeme Reid, the report sets out independent advice on the design of UK funding schemes for international collaboration, innovation and curiosity-driven blue-skies research.

Responding to the report techUK's Associate Director for Technology and Innovation Sue Daley said:

“The UK has always punched above its weight when receiving funding from international research programmes such as Horizon 2020 and has played a central role in leading European research. To continue to achieve this we believe the UK should not have the scale of our ambition limited by restrictive rules on funding.”

“To support the growth of the UK’s world leading tech sector we encourage the UK government to seek to maintain maximum access to future collaboration programmes such as Horizon Europe and not settle for less than an integral role. Taking an ambitious and outward facing approach to collaboration on science and research is essential to ensure that the UK remains a leader in international research and innovation”.
