Launch of CAFCASS Cymru Strategic Plan 2012-2015

CAFCASS Cymru, the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service in Wales, has launched its Strategic Plan for the next three years.

CAFCASS Cymru provides expert independent social work advice to family proceedings courts, the County Courts and the High Court.  The plan outlines CAFCASS Cymru’s strategic goals for the period 2012-2015 and defines the values  at the heart of its work. The plan also sets out a number of challenges that will shape the organisation in the coming years.

Speaking at an event in the Senedd to launch the plan, Gwenda Thomas, the Deputy Minister for Children and Social Services, said:

“CAFCASS Cymru has developed a clear vision for the future, which is detailed in this ambitious strategic plan. I particularly appreciate the way the voices of children and their families have been captured and interwoven within the plan, because they are central to everything that CAFCASS Cymru is trying to achieve.”

For the first time, a children’s version of the plan has been produced to explain to the most important users of CAFCASS Cymru’s services what they can expect from the organisation.

The Deputy Minister added:

“The four very demanding strategic goals are so well summarised in the children’s version. I am particularly grateful to the children’s groups who helped in this development. This is the first major project that CAFCASS Cymru has benefited from such direct involvement of children and I know this is an area where the organisation is developing much stronger participation arrangements in the future.”

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, and the Chief Executive of NHS Wales, David Sissling, also addressed the event, which was attended by key partners from across Wales.
