Sainsbury’s has withdrawn its Freefrom Chocolate Sponge Pudding with a 'best before' date of 13 April 2011, because the product contains low levels of milk protein. Milk is not an intended ingredient and this makes the product a possible health risk for anyone who is allergic to or intolerant of milk.

The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert advising anyone with an allergy to or intolerance of milk, to not eat this product.

Sainsbury’s has removed all affected stock from sale. Customer notices will be displayed in stores, explaining to customers why the product has been withdrawn. If you have bought the affected product you can return it for a full refund. In addition, the company has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the withdrawal.

No other Sainsbury's products are known to be affected.

About allergy alerts

Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
