NLIS hits 20 million searches!

Land Data and NLIS celebrated the 20 millionth NLIS electronic search, at an event held at Land Data’s offices in London.   The milestone is particularly significant as NLIS also celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

Champagne, gifts and certificates were presented to all the parties involved in the 20 millionth search transaction.   NLIS channel SearchFlow processed the search request from solicitors Streeter Marshall who instructed Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to supply official LLC1 and Con29 information for a property in Banstead.  The electronic request was sent through to the local land charges team at the council and returned to the solicitor in just one and half days.

"20 million searches is a testament to NLIS meeting the needs of conveyancers who want authoritative, reliable and fast conveyancing data.  The NLIS electronic end-to-end model is a proven success, bringing benefits to the data providers; to conveyancers and ultimately to the consumer,” said Jan Boothroyd, Chief Executive of Land Data.

NLIS processes searches for six out of ten of all electronic conveyancing transactions in England and Wales.

NLIS Hub manager, Kate Crook commented: “We are delighted to celebrate 20 million searches in the year in which NLIS celebrates its tenth anniversary.  Another great milestone which we are able to celebrate this year, is that every local authority in England and Wales is now fully connected to NLIS with 86% returning searches electronically too.”

Notes to Editors

Land Data
regulates NLIS under an agreement made in 1999 with local government to fulfil objective 43 of the Modernising Government Action Plan and carries the sole mandate for NLIS commercialisation. IDeA established Land Data to serve the interests of the general public by making authoritative property search information accessible to all, whilst at the same time improving the home buying and selling process. Land Data fulfils this remit by promoting official electronically sourced land and property searches via NLIS, throughout England and Wales.
The NLIS Hub is electronically connected to all local authorities in England and Wales, Land Registry, the Coal Authority and other sources of land and property data, the information is distributed by NLIS Channels to solicitors and licensed conveyancers.  Since it began operation in 2001, over 20 million searches have been processed by the NLIS Hub.
