Jane Hutt said:
"There’s some great work going on across Wales to promote women in visible roles but more needs to be done. Sport Wales set a great example last year by actively looking to recruit more women to their Board and I’d like to see more public bodies in Wales do the same.
"By appointing more women into high profile roles we can set the right example for young girls as they look ahead to their future careers and make them realise the opportunities that are out there for them.
"I know the Women’s Equality Network Wales (WENWales) has been working with women’s groups across Wales to help them develop strong events for IWD and this was evident in the quality and variety of applications for funding we received this year.
"The events the Welsh Government will be funding will help to raise awareness of the important role women have in all walks of life as well as addressing other women’s issues.
"I look forward to attending some of the events on International Women’s Day to see for myself the projects underway to empower women and girls in Wales."
