First Minister honours the fallen

The First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones honoured servicemen and women who have lost their lives in conflicts past and present during a special service.

The First Minister laid a wreath at the official opening of the Welsh Field of Remembrance at Cardiff Castle. He also read the exhortation from Laurence Binyon’s poem ‘For The Fallen’.

The First Minister said:

“It is the duty of all if us to remember those who have lost their lives whilst serving in our armed forces. We must never forget the sacrifice they made and this site is now a focus for remembrance across Wales.

“Such remembrance is not only recognition of past wars, but of conflicts across the world today. Welsh servicemen and women are taking part in operations right now, including in Afghanistan. We all need to think of the stresses and pressures they and their families endure everyday.”

The First Minister will also be taking part in the National Service of Remembrance at the Wales National War Memorial this coming Sunday.
