Welsh Government promotes social responsibility principles to firms

A Welsh Government campaign is being launched this week to encourage more companies and organisations across Wales to introduce Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles into their day-to-day operations in order to deliver sustainable business, community and environmental benefits.

The launch coincides with the publication of the Welsh Government CSR framework document setting out the Government’s commitment to embed the principles into its decision making and operational processes.

Business Minister Edwina Hart said:

“CSR is relevant to all types of business and we are encouraging and supporting businesses to adopt these principles to make Wales a more sustainable and prosperous nation.

"CSR can benefit businesses by improving their staff recruitment and retention rates as a result of good workplace practices. It can also increase efficiency and cost savings by running sustainable operations, as well as improving relationships with suppliers, customers and communities. Having a good social reputation can also assist companies attract new customers and investors."

Anchor companies across Wales will be holding a series of half day events this autumn in partnership with the Welsh Government to take the message to local businesses, third sector organisations, and students.

The first event on Thursday September 20, organised by British Gas at their Green Skills Centre in Tredegar, will highlight how CSR is at the centre of their organisation and illustrate the business, community and environmental benefits it brings

Other company-led events will be held by Airbus/Cassidian, BT and Sony UK and further information and the framework document will be available here.
