More local support for Armed Forces and veterans

A new regional network of support groups has been launched to help veterans, serving Armed Forces personnel and their families access welfare support in their area.

Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committees (VAPCs)

As part of a one year pilot scheme, 13 new ‘Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committees' (VAPCs) have been set up across the UK.

The VAPCs replace the previous ‘War Pension Committees’, but have a much wider role, including raising awareness of the support available to veterans and the Armed Forces community.

Help and support available to veterans and the Armed Forces and their families include:

  • compensation and pension schemes for those injured, disabled or bereaved through Service
  • advice services
  • the Veterans Welfare Service

The VAPC’s will also help serving personnel, their families and veterans to access these services and other local support.

This will include providing specific assistance and guidance to individuals in their areas and ensuring they are put in touch with the relevant organisations who can help.
