General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (GPRLS) B4 is launched

GPRLS B4 is a new route to Recognition for those teachers, tutors, and trainers who are not required to comply with the regulations, but who may be expected to gain QTLS or ATLS status by their employer, or who seek to do so voluntarily. The B4 route has been carefully designed to take in to account the experience gained by long standing members of the workforce and so is open to those teachers, tutors, and trainers who entered the sector prior to the introduction of the regulations

Those who are successful in achieving generic Recognition through Lifelong Learning UK on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), are then able to commence the process of professional formation and subsequently go on to apply for the status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) depending on their role.

Further benefits of gaining GPRLS
As well as being eligible to apply for licensed status, additional benefits have been cited by successful applicants as including; using the process as an opportunity to reflect on their own experience and develop a clear picture of competence; giving confidence and reassurance; IfL membership category increasing to "Member" for those in the full teacher role, and to "Associate" for those in the associate teacher role.

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to:

practitioners who have been teaching within the 24 months prior to applying for Recognition

And either,

were teaching in the FE incorporated sector prior 1 September 2001

Or,

were teaching in the learning and skills sector but NOT in the FE incorporated sector prior to 1 September 2007

In addition, you should also be registered with the IfL.
