Call for submissions to Unlimited: commissioning and support programme for disabled artists

Unlimited is a new programme which will support disabled artists to develop ambitious and high quality work, which will also help to develop their practice. Relationships and collaborations will be encouraged, from venues and promoters, to producers and audiences.

Delivered by Artsadmin and Shape, and supported by Arts Council England, the Unlimited programme was launched in December 2013 and will run for three years until late 2016. The programme’s first call for applications is open to submissions now, and has two strands:

  • awards for existing work at an advanced stage of research and development, which will be considered for the Unlimited Showcase at Southbank Centre in September 2014
  • research and development for artists or companies that wish to start the initial stages of a new project. Work-in-progress showcases may include work from this strand at a variety of locations

Unlimited aims to support work that is: innovative, varied, excellent and led by disabled artists. Unlimited is about art, not disability: some work may reference disability, some may not.

The deadline for this round of submissions is Monday 17 February. To apply and find out more the programme, visit weareunlimited.org.uk and follow @weareunltd on Twitter.

Unlimited: an Olympic legacy

Between 2009 and 2012, the UK Arts Councils and the British Council commissioned 29 ambitious pieces of work by disabled artists to help celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. All of the commissions were included in the finale of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad - a 12-week cultural celebration across the whole of the UK. This once-in-a-lifetime festival brought together leading artists from all over the world.

The Unlimited programme has generated a substantial amount of interest nationally and internationally among disabled artists, arts commentators, funders and human-rights supporters.
