Applications open for food safety fellowships
The Food Standards Agency has joined forces with the British Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) to fund two early-career fellowships in food safety.
The five-year fellowships will support scientists who wish to pursue research into areas such as combating foodborne diseases or emerging issues affecting food safety. Working with the FSA, the fellows will also be encouraged to use their research expertise to contribute to relevant policy initiatives.
The Agency’s Chief Scientist, Andrew Wadge, said: 'The FSA is delighted to be working in partnership with the BBSRC to offer these fellowships. I believe that supporting the development of high quality, early-career researchers to tackle the challenging problems arising in food safety science will be of real benefit to the FSA for the future. One of the FSA's core principles is being science and evidence-based and I am looking forward to the successful applicants making a significant contribution towards that.'
Dr Celia Caulcott, BBSRC Director, Innovation and Skills, said: 'Supporting the best early-career researchers through these David Phillips Fellowships enables them to develop as independent scientists and research leaders, which is essential for our strategy to deliver world-class bioscience which will bring benefits to society and the economy.
'We are particularly pleased to be nurturing talent in all areas of science that BBSRC funds, including food safety, where we are delighted to be working with the Agency to offer additional support for excellent early-career researchers in this area. BBSRC is very keen to support researchers who can build on the strength of UK knowledge-based bioeconomy helping to deliver growth through sustainable solutions to the energy and materials challenges that we face.'
Applications for the fellowships are now open. For more information on how to apply, see :
