Civil Service Commissioners welcome publication of the draft constitutional renewal bill

CABINET OFFICE News Release (CS Commisioners) issued by The Government News Network on 25 March 2008

The Civil Service Commissioners welcome the publication today of the White Paper 'Governance of Britain - Constitutional Renewal' and the accompanying draft Constitutional Renewal Bill.

Janet Paraskeva, the First Civil Service Commissioner said:

"The Civil Service plays a vital role in the life of the UK and it is right that its core values- honesty, integrity, impartiality and objectivity- are set out in statute.

The Commissioners welcome the publication of the draft Constitutional Renewal Bill. We look forward to discussing the Government's detailed proposal during the consultation period.

The draft Bill also places the Commissioners on a statutory footing. We welcome this strengthening of our independence."
