Putting the record straight

BBC Wales has been running a story this morning Wednesday about plans to review the Welsh Assembly Government's concessionary travel scheme - despite being told that we have no plans whatsoever to scrap the highly successful and popular scheme.

We also informed the BBC that there were no plans to change the entitlement or eligibility criteria for the scheme. We are concerned that as a result of the way the BBC has reported this story - the half a million people in Wales who currently benefit from the scheme may be worried about the future of the free bus pass. We would like to reassure these people that there will be no change to the scheme - we are simply running an audit of the reimbursement mechanism between the Assembly Government, local authorities and bus operators.
