MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH CUSTOMS WARRANT ON UPDOWN COURT

A man has been charged with money laundering offences following
arrests made yesterday in connection with Updown Court, Surrey.
One other man has been released on police bail.
Anthony PEARCE, 43, a consultant engineer, of Mill Ride, Surrey,
appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates today charged with knowingly
using the proceeds of crime to purchase and develop the property
known as Updown Court contrary to section 93b (1) of the Criminal
Justice Act 1988. He was also charged with a second offence relating
to the purchase of a yacht.
He was conditionally bailed to re-appear on 2 August 2001 at Uxbridge
Magistrates Court.
Two other men were released without charge.
This follows action by Customs Officers yesterday who, with the
assistance of the National Crime Squad, executed a warrant on Updown
Court, Windlesham, Surrey.
The investigation is still ongoing.
