NEW ADVISORY PANEL APPOINTED FOR LONG TERM CONDITIONS NSF

19 Jul 2005 02:15 PM

A new multi-professional advisory panel that will advise on how to implement the long term conditions national service framework (NSF) was announced today by Care Services Minister Liam Byrne.

Speaking at the Getting to Grips with the NSF for Long Term Conditions Conference in central London, Liam Byrne said: "I am delighted that professionals from across health and social care are coming together to advise us on how best to implement the NSF.

"Across the country there are examples of extremely good services but more reform is needed. All too often people with long-term neurological conditions simply have not received the support they need. That is why we have published the NSF for Long-term Conditions - to roll out best practice across the country.

"I am determined that we should develop care services which deliver dignity for life. But this means we can not see people as a set of symptoms but as individuals with ambitions, preferences, and responsibilities in the family and the community."

The panel will be chaired by the Kathryn Hudson, National Clinical Director for Social Care and Professor Ian Philp, National Clinical Director for Older People and Neurological Conditions and includes:

- Andy Buck, Chief Executive, North Sheffield Primary Care Trust

- Beverley Hopcutt, Clinical Advisor, Department of Health and Speech and Language Therapist, Manchester
