NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR VEHICLE CERTIFICATION AGENCY (VCA)

The Department for Transport today announced the appointment of Paul
Markwick as the new Chief Executive of the Vehicle Certification
Agency (VCA).
The VCA is an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport. It
is the UK authority for ensuring, through Type Approval schemes, that
vehicles and vehicle parts have been designed and constructed to meet
internationally agreed standards of safety and environmental
protection. Based in Bristol, and with offices in the US, Japan and
Malaysia, the VCA works with vehicle manufacturers and employs around
100 engineers and other staff.
Paul Markwick is a professional engineer whose career has been in the
vehicle industry. Born in 1957, he studied as Aston University and
has worked for a number of companies, including Jaguar, Pirelli, Land
Rover, Ricardo and IVM-Automotive. He is a member of the Institute
of Mechanical Engineers.
Paul will succeed Derek Harvey, who is retiring after 14 years as
Chief Executive. Derek established the VCA as one of the first
Executive Agencies in 1990.
