COURT TO CANCEL REGISTRATION OF NORFOLK CARE HOME OWNERS

24 Jan 2003 05:45 PM

An application to cancel the registration of two care home owners from Norfolk was granted today by a Magistrate's Court in Great Yarmouth.

The application, made by the National Care Standards Commission under the Care Standards Act 2000, was granted in respect of Mr Francois and Mrs Kim Knoote of Taywood House, a care home for older people at 112 North Denes Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

The court made the order because it considered that there was a serious risk to the life, health and well being of service users in the home.

The order takes immediate effect. Arrangements will be made with the relevant local social services and health authorities to help the remaining residents in the home. The NCSC will work with all parties to ensure that the welfare and concerns of residents and their relatives will be properly and sensitively managed throughout. The NCSC will continue to have a presence in the home.

Note for Editors:
1) The application for cancellation of registration was made under Section 20 of the Care Standards Act 2000.

The NCSC was established as an independent, non-departmental public body, under the Care Standards Act 2000, to register and inspect a wide range of social care and private and voluntary health care services. The rights and welfare of service users are at the heart of our work. It registers and inspects a range of approximately 40,000 establishments that fall under the following directorates - Adult Services (e.g. care homes for older people); Children's Rights (e.g. children's homes, boarding schools); Private and Voluntary Health Care (e.g. independent medical agencies, exclusively private doctors).
