HARD WORK AND DEDICATION RECOGNISED IN KIRKLEES

Media opportunity: Media are invited to attend the awards ceremony at Lockwood Park Rugby Union Club, Brewery Drive, Lockwood, Huddersfield on Thursday 21st September at 7.30pm. Kirklees Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Barry South will host the evening.

Hard work, professionalism, courage and commitment shown by police officers and staff in Kirklees is being recognised at the annual presentation evening.

Chief Superintendent Barry South said: “I am delighted to recognise the contribution of both police officers and staff in making the Kirklees District a safer place to live and work. These awards pay tribute to those who have gone beyond the call of duty in providing an exceptional service to the people of Kirklees and they should be rightly proud of their achievements.”

An Assistant Chief Constable’s Certificate of Merit will be awarded to PC Mark Coulson, PS Chak Khan, PC Shelton Newsham, PS Paul Smith, PC Mark Lunn, PS Paul Elsey, PS Janet Clemmett, PC Simon Thomas, Special Constable Justin Brown on 8th October 2005 for prompt and brave actions to alert and rescue people from a block of flats which was on fire.

PC Graham Parkinson, PC Christopher Senior, PC David Jackman, PC Lisa McManus, PC Kevin Tomkinson, PC Andrew Long, PC Mark Lunn, DC James Rudge and Geoff Saunders for actions which resulted in the arrest of three prolific offenders who were later convicted of Post Office burglary and vehicle thefts.

PS Richard Holmes for his courage, leadership and quick thinking on 26th March 2006 while attending an incident in Dewsbury in which he disarmed a man who was threatening his wife with a knife.

Divisional Commander’s Certificates of Merit will be awarded to PS Graham Hawcroft, PC Steven Pearson, PC Donna Collins, PC Sajiv Prabhakar, PC William Pringle, DO Benjamin Ducker, DO Angela Ryan for working well in difficult circumstances when on 19th November 2005 at Ravensthorpe there was a disturbance resulting in the arrest of three young women. All three were under the influence of alcohol and controlled drugs and were taken to hospital. Early intervention at the hospital resulted in a full recovery by all three.

PC Patrick Habron for his commitment to tackling hate crime on 26th February 2006, while off duty arrested a youth acting in a threatening manner towards passing taxi drivers.

PC Chris Porritt, PC Duncan Ramsden, PC Mark Lundy, PC John Wallace and PC Sonia Hutchinson for arresting two suspects on 8th November 2005 at a house in Batley where a burglary was in progress. They were both later charged with burglary.

The Kirklees CCTV Unit, who work closely with West Yorkshire Police, have recorded over 5000 incidents and recorded footage of over 1000 arrests. Over 400 of those are as a direct result of observations of the CCTV staff. They have also assisted the Division by using the CCTV mobile van in supporting anti-social behaviour initiatives.

PC Stephen Kinchin for quick thinking and awareness after carrying out the arrest of a known burglar in November 2005 at Dewsbury which resulted in 25 offences being taken in to consideration.

PC Mark Walker for assisting two traffic officers in the arrest of 5 people while off duty.

PC Justine Ward and PC Sarah Lockwood for attempting to provide mouth to mouth resuscitation during an incident in May 2006 in Batley where a woman had collapsed and subsequently died.

DS Paul Simm, DC Derek Moorhouse, DC Carla Tiffany, DC Kevin Scott, PC John Clay for initiative and courage in arresting two men at Cartworth Moor, near Huddersfield in November 2003 who were known to be in the possession of firearms and subsequently the detection of numerous offences of burglary.

PC Mark Lundy for outstanding police work, consistent dedication and hard work throughout 2005 resulting in 205 arrests.

PC Justin Dhurmea and PC Sophie Lawrence for work in December 2005 to charge a burglar with a series of offences and work to support vulnerable victims.

PC Adam Newton and PC Daniel Middlebrook for their actions during a disturbance in Mirfield to restore order in July 2006.

PS Chak Khan and PC Mark Bordman for disarming a man with a knife who was threatening to harm himself in July 2006.

DC Derek Moorhouse for arresting a man armed with a golf club in April 2006 in Huddersfield after witnessing a road rage incident while off duty.

DC Andrew Emerson and DC Andrew Grateorex for their investigative skills whilst conducting a prison visit to obtain information which brought about the recovery of a substantial amount of drugs and an imitation firearm.

DC Sally Carter, DC Richard Drabble, DC Carla Tiffany for successfully completing the Initial Crime Investigators Development Programmme.
