NEW APPOINTMENTS TO EMPLOYMENT APPEAL TRIBUNAL

4 Apr 2002 06:42 PM

Minister of State for Employment Relations Alan Johnson today announced 17 new lay members appointed to the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT).

The EAT hears appeals on points of law from decisions of the employment tribunals. The EAT President and visiting judges are assisted by lay members who normally have an equal voice in making decisions. These lay members are required by statute to have special knowledge or experience of employment relations, either as representatives of employers or representatives of employees.

Alan Johnson said:

"I am delighted to announce these new appointments to the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

"The new members will bring a wealth of experience to bear on the employment relations process."
