POLICE COMPLAINTS AUTHORITY TO SUPERVISE WEST YORKSHIRE FATAL ROAD DEATH

The independent Police Complaints Authority is appealing for witnesses to a road traffic incident which occurred in Seacroft, Leeds.

At 4.00p.m on Wednesday 10 January, a Volkswagen Jetta car driven by a West Yorkshire Police officer, was travelling on the A64 York Road. It collided with a pedestrian, a local 15-year-old girl, near to the Netto Supermarket.

Rebecca Firm was taken to St James''s University Hospital, Leeds, where her condition later deteriorated and she died the following afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police voluntarily referred the incident to the Police Complaints Authority. Chief Superintendent Philip Revill-Johnson of West Yorkshire Police Discipline and Complaints Unit has been appointed as the investigating officer, with Authority member Mr Ian Bynoe supervising the investigation.

Mr Bynoe said: ''I urge anyone who witnessed the incident to please get in contact with Killingbeck traffic Department on 0845 6060606.''
