CBI responds to government defence procurement plans
The CBI responded to a statement from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on the Defence Materiel Strategy.
Jim Bligh, CBI head of public services reform, said:
"The CBI supports efforts to reform defence procurement so that the Armed Forces receive the equipment, support and technology they need at a value government and taxpayers can afford.
"The Government will need to consult closely with the defence industry to determine whether the GOCO procurement model is the right one to deliver these outcomes.
"It is right that government injects new commercial skills and expertise into the management of major defence projects with a private sector-led approach. This could help to eradicate delays and deliver better value for money.”
