Appointment of Wales board member for Passenger Focus

Economy, Science and Transport Minister, Edwina Hart, has announced the appointment of Diane McCrea as the Wales board member of Passenger Focus.

Colin Foxall, chair of Passenger Focus, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Diane to the Passenger Focus board. Diane’s strong commitment to the consumer movement and deep understanding of the importance of research and customer service will benefit passengers across our remit area, not only in Wales."

Diane McCrea has been appointed until 30 April 2017. The post is remunerated at £12,000 per annum for a time commitment of 4 days a month.

Diane has worked in consumer policy (mainly on food and water issues) in Wales, the UK, Europe and internationally. She has experience of working as a Board member of several organisations in the voluntary and private sectors, as well a Trustee of educational and research Charities - aiming to set consumer focussed strategy and ensuring efficient delivery of objectives to meet consumers’ expectations.

Her background is in research and education, and she has worked in the university and public sector and currently holds a Ministerial appointment representing consumer and public interests with the Consumer Council for Water as Vice Chair of the Board (England and Wales) and as Board member for Wales and Chair of the Wales Committee.

Passenger Focus is the operating name of the Passengers’ Council established under the provision of the Railways Act 2005. Passenger Focus is a non-departmental public body that represents the interests of rail passengers in Britain and bus passengers in England (outside London). It can appoint up to 14 Board members, one of whom is appointed by Welsh Ministers.

The appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Diane McCrea did not declare in any political activity in the last 5 years.
