Bowel screening

ISD Scotland has published statistics on the Scottish Bowel Screening Programme (June 2007-May 2010).

A Scottish Government spokesperson said:

"We are working very hard with NHS boards across Scotland to encourage everyone who is eligible to come forward for bowel screening.

"Bowel screening saves lives - the figures show that early detection greatly improves survival rates from bowel cancer.

"The Scottish Government worked with NHS boards to produce a DVD which explains bowel screening and how to do the test in different languages. The DVD was launched in October 2009."
