CBI COMMENTS ON MCNULTY REPORT ON UK RAIL NETWORK

20 May 2011 11:18 AM
The CBI yesterday commented Sir Roy McNulty’s report, Realising the Potential of GB Rail.

Dr Neil Bentley, CBI Deputy Director-General, said:

“This report is an important step towards delivering the rail network we need at a cost we can afford. Rail is a vital artery for businesses moving goods and people around the country, and it must be affordable, efficient and reliable.

“But we will not see much-needed investment in our rail network unless the Government delivers on more flexible, longer-term rail franchises, and backs modernisation of outdated working practices on the railway.”

On the announcement of a new rail delivery group, chaired by Tim O’Toole, Chief Executive of First Group, Dr Bentley added:

“Business and the Government must work together to deliver the major reforms we need on the rail network, so this group will be crucial.”
