CBI COMMENTS ON NAO REPORT ON BENEFIT ERRORS

The CBI today commented on the National Audit Office’s report ‘Department for Work and Pensions: Minimising the cost of administrative errors in the benefit system.’
Emma Watkins, CBI Head of Public Services policy, said:
“Our figures show that recovering debt and tackling benefit and personal taxation fraud and error could save £20bn by 2015-16. It is therefore disappointing that there has been no obvious reduction in the level of administrative errors since 2007.
“The Universal Credit will simplify the benefits system, which should reduce mistakes.
“Private and third sector organisations have expertise in administration and delivery of welfare services, and the Government should make more use of them.”
