Earlier access to mental health services? – have your say on proposed new law

A new law to improve access to mental health services in Wales has been proposed by the Welsh Government.
The Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 will put a duty on local health boards and councils to provide mental health support services at an earlier stage than is currently the case.
It will also mean improved advocacy services (access to advice and information) for those suffering from mental health problems.
Now the National Assembly for Wales’ Legislation Committee No.3 will scrutinise the proposed Measure and it wants to hear the views of as many people as possible.
Committee Chair, Dai Lloyd AM said: “Those suffering from mental health problems should get the same level of service as anyone else accessing the health service.
Our job, as a committee, is to look at this legislation and ascertain whether this legislation can achieve what it sets out to achieve.
That’s why we want to hear from as many groups and individuals as possible to feed into this process that we get the best legislation as possible.”
