Funding for 10,000 business mentors

The government has announced funding to recruit and train an additional 10,000 volunteers to become business mentors.

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills along with the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative will be delivering the Get Mentoring Project (Opens in a new window), which will recruit and train thousands of business mentors in the UK from the small, medium and micro business community.

This follows our recent support package announcing 5,000 mentors for new and exisiting female entrepreneurs.

Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities Theresa May said: 'Mentoring is an effective way of helping businesses progress. It is about providing guidance, encouragement and exploring new ideas.

'We recently announced funding to create 5,000 mentors for entrepreneurs as part of a package of support for women’s enterprise.

'I am delighted the government is investing in recruitment of an additional 10,000 volunteers to become mentors.'

This project will provide new and growing businesses real support and the mentors can also learn new ideas and develop new skills.

Yesterday's announcement comes during Global Entrepreneurship Week (Opens in a new window) – a week of events designed promote enterprise across the UK and internationally.
