Hi

Get active at The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show 2008

15 Jan 2008 02:59 PM The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show is back for 2008 and the national mapping agency and its partners will be on hand to showcase the latest and greatest innovations in the world of outdoor leisure.

To be held on 14–16 March 2008 at Birmingham’s NEC, the show boasts a huge selection of new gear, the chance to learn to dive, scale a wall of ice, learn survival skills and meet celebrity guests Bear Grylls and Kate Silverton, among many others.

Ordnance Survey will be there to demonstrate ‘explore’, the online outdoor community website that’s encouraging everyone to upload their favourite routes online, share photographs and start blogging with thousands of other like-minded individuals.

Alongside the entire range of Ordnance Survey maps, the new series of OS Landranger Map – Active will also be available at a special discount price to ticket holders. These are the 25 most popular OS Landranger Map titles in a special ‘Active’ format, making them tough, versatile and weatherproof – ideal for use in all conditions.

Vanessa Lawrence CB, Director General and Chief Executive of Ordnance Survey, says: “By sponsoring the Outdoors Show once again, in 2008, I hope we can continue to inspire people to try new activities and enjoy new leisure pursuits both inside and outside.

“At the start of a new year many of us resolve to get fit and active but, as the year moves on, that resolution can get harder and harder. A visit to this year’s Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show in March could be the perfect shot of inspiration we all need to keep going.

“The show is an excellent chance to showcase what we and our partners have to offer, from satellite navigation products and the web 2.0 community website, ‘explore’, to the full range of our much-loved paper maps.”

To help you get the most out of your Ordnance Survey maps, outdoor specialists will be offering their expertise during free navigation workshops at the Ordnance Survey Theatre. Whether you are a complete novice or an advanced map reader, there will be something to match your ability.

All this and the chance to enter a prize draw to win a fabulous UK adventure holiday with family or friends.
