The Government
will host two events this year to mark the 65th anniversary of the
end of World War Two.
To remember Victory in Europe (VE) Day, on Saturday 8 May,
representatives of the Government, the major opposition parties,
the Armed Forces and veterans organisations will lay wreaths at
the Cenotaph in Whitehall during a short service.
A further event will be held on August 15 to mark the 65th
anniversary of Victory in Japan (VJ) Day. Further details of this
event will be announced in the summer.
Minister for Veterans, Kevan Jones said: “These events will allow
us to remember the huge contribution and sacrifices made by
members of the Armed Forces and civilians, both at home and
overseas during World War Two. We should never forget the debt
that we owe to the 300,000 British Service personnel and civilians
who lost their lives. It is vital that their sacrifice continues
to be remembered by future generations.”
